Photo and video are the main types of content, which is now consumed in a big quantity. If you are going to order production of such content, you must understand what and how production is carried out. Knowing this you will be able to assess the correctness of the team’s actions, the adequacy of costs and much more criteria, that lead to the good result.
Does the client need to be involved in the process of production?
Most customers wants to pass the conduction of the content production to the studio and forget about it. But in reality it’s impossible, because on some stages the client’s participation is crucial. Right, the performer’s experience and professionalism is important and you need to trust the team. But the customer’s opinion must be counted when concepts, locations and other nuances are confirming. That’s why every client must know at lest the bases of production in order to argue its opinion when approving the done work. Now we are going to talk about the stages the whole process is divided to.
Stage 1. Production
To begin with you need to create the general concept and the vision of the final product:
· What do you need to film a video? The finished script, storyboard(in some cases), the location selection and actors.
· What do you need for photoshoot? Stylistic and colour concept, selection of light and the position of the subject in the frame, the creation of the whole idea.
For both options the search and purchasing of the props, defining of the team and its gathering is performed. Then the date of the shooting can be set. All this process lasts approximately two-three weeks. Sometimes could be longer because it depends on the level of difficulty.
Stage 2. Production
The photoshoots and video recordings are directly performed at this stage considering the concept approved at the previous stage. Filming can last one day or even three. The difficulty of assigned tasks and the scope of work is taking into account.
Stage 3. Post-production
You have the filmed material on hands. What next?
- Selection and preparation. This stage is used to sift out all the unnecessary materials. Get rid of defective, blurred and bad shots. Keep only those, which can be used. Then the art director looks through them and choose the ones suitable for the concept. All this takes from two to three days.
- Editing. If talking about photo, specialist do the retouching and color correction. If we talking about the videos, first the rough cut is done, and only after the adjustments the visual is cleaned and color correction is performed. Also if necessary at this stage the voiceover is recorded, music is selected, graphic elements are created.
- Adjustment. At the final stage editing are added, if there are any, and final agreement is carried through. Stage two and three can take more than one month.
At first it could seem too long, but to create quality content greatest efforts are made. A hundreds of people are involved in this process: photographer, videographer, scriptwriter, art director, designer, retoucher, editor and others.
